When Toni Collette Fakes Sick, She Goes All Out

October 12, 2019

HI, WOW LOOK AT THIS.>>NICE TO MEET YOU.>>IT IS A PLEASURE TO MEET YOU,
THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME.>>Stephen: NOW ONE OF THE
THINGS I FOUND OUT, I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN, THIS I’M IN SHOW
BUSINESS, I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN. THIS BUT YOU IS HAVE SUCH A
GREAT AMERICAN ACCENT THAT I DIDN’T KNOW YOU WERE A SECRET
AUSSIE.>>YOU REALLY DIDN’T KNOW I’M
AUSTRALIAN.>>Stephen: I’M SO SORRY.>>YOU NEED NOT APOLOGIZE.>>Stephen: DO YOU EVER USE IT
OFF CAMERA. DO YOU EVER USE IT LIKE JUST IN
YOUR OWN PRIVATE LIFE.>>I MEAN NORMALLY– ONLY WHEN
PEOPLE CAN’T UNDERSTAND ME. I THINK I’M PRETTY ARTICULATE
AND CLEAR BUT THERE ARE SOME CASES WHERE HAVE I TO PUT ON THE
HARD R’S AND MAKE IT– SPEAK YOUR LANGUAGE.>>Stephen: WE WILL HAVE TO DO
THAT ALMOST THE ENTIRE INTERVIEW. SO WHEN DO YOU, SO LIKE ON THE
PHONE OR SOMETHING YOU MIGHT.>>YEAH, BECAUSE VISUALLY IF
PEOPLE CAN SEE YOU THEY CAN READ YOU A LITTLE BETTER BUT ON THE
PHONE, JUST TRYING TO MAKE A GENERAL APPOINTMENT OR
RESERVATION OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, THERE CAN BE A LOT
OF– YEAH.>>Stephen: SO IF SOMEONE SAYS
I’M SORRY, WHAT ARE YOU SAYING, YOU WANT AN APPOINT FOR FOR
WHEN?>>THURSDAY DAY. WOW, THAT WAS THE EASIEST.>>Stephen: HOW DO YOU SAY
THAT NATURALLY.>>THURSDAY. THAT WAS PRETTY GOOD. YOUR BRITISH ACCENT WAS
FANTASTIC EARL YER.>>Stephen: I DID A BRITISH
ACCENT.>>YEAH, YOU DID.>>Stephen: WHAT I DID SAY.>>I CAN’T REMEMBER BUT IT WAS
SPOT ON.>>Stephen: OKAY, I LIKE THAT
ESPECIALLY WHEN I USED TO DO MY OLD CHARACTER ON THE OLD SHOW,
BUT I MEAN THIS A LITTLE BIT. ACTORS ARE LIARS OF A KIND.>>I’M A TERRIBLE LIAR.>>Stephen: REALLY, LIKE
TERRIBLE IN THAT YOU DO IT TOO OFTEN OR THAT ARE YOU NOT GOOD
AT IT? HOW ARE YOU USING TERRIBLE.>>I’M VERY POOR AT LYING. I JUST GET ALL REDS AND
FLUSTERED AND HOPELESS AT IT.>>Stephen: WHAT PART DID I
SAY TO YOURSELF I THINK I’M GOOD AT PRETENDING. BECAUSE I WAS PRETTY YOUNG WHEN
I SECRETLY SAID I KIND OF WANT TO BE AN ACTOR OR PERFORMER.>>REALLY.>>Stephen: I WAS REALLY
YOUNG, I DIDN’T TELL ANYBODY BUT.>>IT WAS AN INTERNAL THING.>>Stephen: YEAH.>>I WAS PROBABLY A TEENAGER
WHEN I REALIZED I WANTED TO ACT. AND I COME FROM A WORKING CLASS
FAMILY, NOTHING TO DO SHOW BUSINESS, IN THE WESTERN SU
BESHES OF SINNED NEE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD. I JUST LOVED MOVIES AND TV. PEOPLE OFTEN THINK THAT, I DID
THIS THING WHEN I WAS 11 WHICH IT WAS NOTHING TO DO WITH
ACTING. ST JUST MY MOTHER TOLD ME SHE
HAD HER APPENDIX REMOVED WHEN SHE WAS 11 AND I THOUGHT I WILL
GIVE THAT A GO.>>Stephen: WHAT DO YOU PEERN.>>HI A SLIGHT STOMACH ACHE, BUT
IT IS OUT AND THEY KNOW AND EVERYTHING IS FINE IN MY FAMILY. BUT I EXAGGERATED IT A BIT TO
GET OUT OF SCHOOL.>>Stephen: WAIT, YOU SAID.>>SHE SAID TO ME LEN I WAS 11 I
HAD MY APPENDIX REMOVED. I SAID WHAT WAS THAT LIKE. SHE SAID WHEN THE DISOK TOR
PRESSES IN IT DOESN’T HURT T IS WHEN THEY REMOVE THEIR HANDS
THAT THERE IS, YOU KNOW, AN ERUPTION OF PAIN. SO I HAD THAT TID BIT OF
INFORMATION. GOT TO HOPE MY KID NEFERS HEAR. THIS AND AND I HAD MY APPENDIX
REMOVED.>>Stephen: WAIT A SECOND, SO
YOU SAID TO YOUR MOM I’VE GOT A STOMACH ACHE I THINK IT IS AN
APPEND SIGHT IS.>>I JUST KNEW THE VIBE OF WHAT
IF MIGHT BE LIKE.>>Stephen: SO WHEN THEY
PUSHED ON THE STOMACH WHEN IT HURT YOU SAID NO AND THEN WEB
THEY– YEAH.>>
>>Stephen: BUT WILL IS ONE THING TO DO THAT MOMENTARILY BUT
THEN YOU WENT TO A DPOK TOR AND THEY TOOK YOU TO SURGERY AND
CULT YOU OPEN AND REMOVED AN ORGAN FROM YOUR BODY AND THE
WHOLE TIME YOU STAYED IN CHARACTER? (LAUGHTER)
>>IT IS SO MORTIFYINGLY– IT’S JUST SO EMBARRASSING. I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT, I KNOW,
I’M NOT ONE OF THOSE ACTORS WHO NEEDS ATTENTION. (LAUGHTER)
AND THEN I TELL THIS STORY AND I’M LIKE OH, CAN THAT IS [BLEEP]
>>Stephen: WELL, THE NEW MOVE WREE IS CALLED HER
EDITOR– HEREDITARY.>>IT IS, YEAH.>>Stephen: IT IS A SCARY
STORY, WITHOUT GIVING ANYTHING AWAY WHAT CAN YOU TELL
PEOPLE– TELL PEOPLE.>>IT IS A HORROR FILM BUT IT
ALSO HAS A LOT OF OTHER ELEMENTS TO. IT. I LIKE FIRL AMS THAT YOU
CAN’T QUITE CATEGORIZE WHICH IS PRETTY RARE THESE DAYS IT IS
ABOUT A FAMILY, THEY ARE GRIEVING, AND IT IS A BEAUTIFUL
LOOK AT THEM GOING THROUGH THEIR PAIN. MY CHARACTER HAS AN AWAKENING OF
SORTS AND LEARNS THINGS ABOUT HER FAMILY HISTORY AND WHAT SHE
FINDS OUT AIN’T GOOD.>>Stephen: ARE YOU THE SCARY
PERSON OR THE SCARIER– THE SCARED OR SCARING PERSON IN THIS
ONE.>>I STRAD EL BOTH AREAS.>>Stephen: OH REALLY. WHICH IS– WHICH IS HARDER, TO
BE SCARED OR SCARING.>>I THINK PROBABLY REACTING IN
A FEARFUL WAY IS HARDER TO MAKE TRUTHFUL THAN TRYING TO — DI
THINK IT IS EASIER TO SCARE SOMEONE, ISN’T IT?>>Stephen: I WOULDN’T SNOW. I ONLY GIVE LOVE. I ONLY GIVE LOVE. UH-HUH.>>I BELIEVE YOU.>>Stephen: THANK YOU. WELL, I LOOK FORWARD TO BEING
SCARED BY HEREDITARY.>>ENJOY.>>Stephen: HEREDITARY S WILL
SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE FAMILY.>>THERE IS SOMETHING VERY WRONG
WITH THE FAMILY. (LAUGHTER).>>Stephen: LET’S LEAVE IT AT
THAT, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING HERE.>>PLEASURE.>>Stephen: HEREDITARY IS IN
THREETER THIS THRIE, TONI COLLETTE, EVERYBODY. WE’LL BE RIGHT BACK WITH
