What’s NEW in Photoshop CC 2019? Why This Update is In The Right Direction

November 1, 2019

– Hey guys, it’s Denny here. There’s a new update for Photoshop with tons of improvements. In this video, I’m gonna be giving a quick update on what’s new in the October 2018
release of Photoshop CC. (upbeat electronic music) If you look in the toolbar, you’re gonna see something different. This is the new Frame Tool. The Frame Tool lets you put placeholders. Let’s say you’re
designing an ad interface, but you don’t have an image for it yet. You know that the image should be this certain width and height. You can use a Frame Tool
to draw a placeholder. And if you have an image for it, you can just drop it in. Your image will confine to your frame, so you don’t have to waste
time creating layer masks. (upbeat electronic music) There’s a new dedicated workspace
for Content-Aware Filling. This workspace makes it
easier to remove objects. You get a before and after preview so you don’t have to
keep undoing and redoing like you did before. There’s also a lot of things
to fine-tune your results. (upbeat electronic music) Okay, this is really stupid
but one of the improvements that Adobe has made for
Photoshop is their Undo Hotkey. I’m just glad that Adobe did this, but here’s what it is. Now, by default, the Undo Hotkey, that’s Control + Z on
Windows, Command + Z on Macs. It works like every other software. This means that if you press the Control + Z key three times, it will actually undo three times. Whereas before, it would undo, redo, because it’s undoing the undo. And then undo again. So in the end, if you press
Control + Z three times, you’re really only undoing once. To redo, in the new update, you just press Shift + Control + Z or Shift + Command + Z on Macs. Now if you don’t like this,
you’re not used to it, and you want to change it back, you can do so by going to
Edit, Keyboard Shortcuts. Check mark the Use Legacy
Undo Shortcuts option, and Photoshop will be
back to how it was before. (upbeat electronic music) The next time you use the brush tool, look in the Options bar. You’ll find a new butterfly icon. This is a really cool new
feature called Symmetry Mode. I’m gonna click on it, and you can see there are 10 styles
for you to choose from. I’m gonna choose a mandala
and set the segments to five. As you paint, your brush will
be repeated on all five sides. (upbeat electronic music) There’s also a lot of
new, smaller improvements that I’m gonna go through
very quickly for you. First, you can now hover
over the Blending Modes and the Layers panel to
preview how it looks. You can enter math formulas,
simple math formulas into every field. You can preview how
your image looks flipped before actually changing
any of your layers. In the color panel,
there’s a new color wheel that you can access from your panel menu. You can distribute the
space in between objects like in Adobe Illustrator. To type two places sample Lorem Ipsum text so you can see your font
and font size right away. When transforming a layer, you don’t need to hold
the Shift key anymore. It keeps it proportional by default. The Match Font feature now
supports Japanese fonts. There’s also support for five
more South Asian languages. Finally, there’s a new
option in the Preferences to scale your UI according
to your font size. So if you set your font
to something larger, your UI will also get larger. (slow upbeat electronic music) Hey, thanks for watching. If you like it, please remember
to hit the Like button. Now with this update, we’re not seeing a lot of huge changes in
terms of new features. But we are seeing a lot of
small little improvements that improve Photoshop overall. And I’m kind of glad that
Adobe chose this route instead of doing
something that sounds good from a marketing perspective. I kind of like the Frame Tool. I used it for a bit; it’s not quite there. But it is a step in the right direction. And I do see it being used
in future product mock-ups or Photoshop templates. Anyways, lemme know what you guys think in the comments below. I hope you have an amazing day, and I’ll see you in the next video. (upbeat electronic music)

As a graphic designer this seems useful I need to test out these new tools to see for myself, but from what I'm seeing this does look like Adobe knows what they're doing when it comes to adding new updates. I'm glad that they're listening to us artist and doing what they can to make Photoshop better. Now what we need is the full version of Photoshop to be on mobile.

"When transforming a layer, you don't need to hold the Shift key. It keeps it proportional by default." This is both nice and HORRIBLE… anyway to undo this? or at least make shapes do the same thing? The fact that i have to either hold it down or not whether im resizing a layer/picture or a shape is so confusing…. .—. …. Please tell me theres a way to either make shapes do the same thing or make layers act the same as before. XD im dying.

Hell yes to the new undo. So stupid, the most advanced software and this is what I'm excited about! About time…..

I'm having so much trouble with the transform feature. The "automatic scale" is giving me trouble when I want to simply transform an object wider, without changing the dimension height too! How do I turn off the "auto scale" feature?

Where did my third party plug in go? The plug in folder in Photoshop 2019 looks different and putting my 2018 plug ins into that folder don't make them register in 2019. REALLY FRUSTRATING!!!! I hate these updates.

  • Reply Huh? what?? uhhhhh......aaaaaaaaaaarghhhh!?!?!? October 19, 2018 at 2:29 pm

Adobe is getting scared of AFFINITY. Its your fault DENNY

OMG, normal Undos instead of retarded, three-button ones.
But I still kinda want to find the guy who brought the shift key into Undo, and give him a running kick to the nuts. So many years subjecting us to that crap deserves one good nut kick.

  • Reply Skipper October 27, 2018 at 3:28 pm

Pressing Shift to Retain the ratio of the image was better than the updated auto scaling.

  • Reply Joshua Wright October 28, 2018 at 2:53 am

And they ruined the classic crop tool

  • Reply MattieCooper November 8, 2018 at 8:11 am

How in the Hell do you tell Photoshop to stop auto inserting Lorem Ipsum when using Text??!!?!

hi, is anyone else having major issues with the update? Macos Majove, and photoshop app update will not allow me to close any tool panels. why? and the save converts to all small circles.

Latest photoshop version is so awful! Buggy as hell, it's crashing all the time, and I can't edit videos with the timeline anymore because it got so slow… I thought it would be the PC at my work (i5 8400 + 8GB RAM), so I tried it on my PC (Ryzen 2700x + 16GB RAM) and it's the same. Is there any fix for this? I'm back using CC 2018 because of it.
