What’s New for After Effects CC | Adobe Creative Cloud

September 8, 2019

The fall 2018 release
of After Effects CC gives you new creative tools and the
performance improvements you need to meet ever tighter deadlines. Make 3D composites look natural
with access to depth passes and effects for native 3D layers. Apply 3D channel effects to any
precomp using either the classic 3D, or Cinema 4D renderer, or access depth passes directly. Advanced puppet pins
for mesh sculpting add new life to your animations. Bend, twist, and scale your layers with never before flexibility
and creative control. The new JavaScript based
Expressions engine is built on modern frameworks, offering access to new
coding techniques, and an improved editing experience. It’s also up to five times faster. Responsive design time creates regions where animation
maintains precise timing. Even as you time stretch your
compositions and Motion Graphics templates. Authors of Motion Graphics templates can also choose to enable
font customizations, organize properties into groups, and use spreadsheets to
create infographics templates. And if you’ve always wanted
to get into After Effects CC, but didn’t know where to start; friendly new Home
and Learn panels give you the guidance
you need to succeed. Get all this and more in the fall
2018 release of After Effects CC.

Ah yes, time to make YTPMV visuals 5x faster.
    Thank you Adobe, very cool!

How soon is soon?! I need that Character Animator arm rig update yesterday..

  • Reply Charles Reilly September 12, 2018 at 3:06 pm

Or you could download Davinci for free which comes with Fusion & Fairlight Audio …and does all this… cloud is a scam and forces you to keep coughing up… check out the complaints on the forums

  • Reply jmalmsten September 12, 2018 at 3:58 pm

I'm guessing "soon" and "fall release" is the usual obfuscation of "late october/early november?" Some time around adobe MAX MAYBE? As has been the case usually?

I just think it's needlessly vague of a timeframe. "Some time between now and new year"

  • Reply jmalmsten September 12, 2018 at 3:59 pm

But on a lighter note… I've been waiting for ae mogrts to be time flexible ever since mogrts where initially announced!

  • Reply Slobbo September 12, 2018 at 5:12 pm

What the fuck, we don't need any new shiny features. What we need is multi threading fucking support [email protected]!!!

    Expressions update <3 Finally!

  • Reply Ksenobait Lukw September 12, 2018 at 7:39 pm

aaaaaaaaaaand still no news about the render engine or multiprocessing. On that note maby it's time to add updates to shape layer system, tapered strokes? gradient sover stroke? anyone?

better support for 32 bit exr files? multiprocessing?

  • Reply blabal September 15, 2018 at 6:21 pm

Another hilarious update!!! “As a bonus now in 32bit” you guys are clowns. I am done. This software is growing up with expensive extensions and plugins. Time to stop to buy this garbage.

  • Reply snakedogman September 16, 2018 at 7:59 pm

Improved speed is always welcome but the speed of development is laughable. Compare something like AE development to 3D software packages like C4D or Houdini. Yes ok, AE is cheaper as part of CC and I assume the couple of devs that are actually working hard on it are not to blame. But really you need so many scripts and plugins to do stuff it's not even funny anymore. Where are the showstopper features in AE in the past 5 years? Why no good built in particle or physics systems? Character animation tools? Why no streamlining the interface (endless twirl-down shit in the timeline). Still no layer groups after all these years? Yes, luckily there are many great plugins and scripts, but many also rely on "hacks" to work and are not as efficient as they could be. Why not buy up some of the most useful 3rd party created scripts or tools and implement them natively (or of course develop native equivalents)? Streamline and update text animators and shape layers (once cool features but hardly touched since release and reliant upon endless twirl down options in the timeline). Where is AE's 2D equivalent of C4D's mograph? Node based systems? And then where is the multi core/cpu render support? You removed it several years ago and never replaced it. There was a great initiative by Sander van Dijk to brainstorm new AE features and improvements:
Many great ideas there. Gues how many of those have been implemented since 2015? None.
So sad there is virtually no competition in the market for AE. Don't get me wrong, I love the software but the lack of competition means it just seems stuck in only providing the most minimal updates they can get away with. Again look at 3D software. Quite a lot of competition: Maxon, Autodesk, Houdini, Lightwave, Blender, Modo…. many vendors competing over features, leading to incredible progress every year again. What competition does AE have? Hitfilm?

What have you done with all the modern necessities overdue for years now? Multi-CPU for instance? Without third party you'd be dead by now. Slowest development i've seen…by far.

Not having multi processing on a graphics flagship program in 2018 is just unacceptable. Especially when it used to have it. Why would you shoot yourself in the foot like that? Absolutely ridiculous.

As for Responsive Design, also check out Marker Remap ( ), which essentially brings similar functionality but with some additional very helpful features that go beyond what the new Responsive Design does. Works in AE CC2017+

I've been working in vfx and compositing for 15 years and you REALLY need to update your software.
Here are the fixes we need as compositors Adobe After Effects.
-3d Compositing improvements with Geometry we can move around and manipulate (for projections and other things)
-Node Based option for compositing (like fusion, nuke)
-FIX your camera projector! it is a such a mess right now! people have to do all these HACKs to get it to work
-Physically Based rendering improvements (GPU get with it)
-Create a BETTER 3D env to work in. Right now its SLOW. Not intuitive hard to move around.
    – SMART Vector tools! Export out vector motion files as EXRS so we can composite stuff on cloths and faces with proper deformation
    -A particle engine with physics
-EXR splitter and merger (BUILD A NODE BASED option)
I could keep going on and on but ill leave it at that for now.
I would love to sit down with your engineers and give them some ideas. Companies like Maxon listen to their users and apply the feedback, resulting in a better product and more loyalty from users. please do the same.

Dear Adobe. That is not an update. I feel like we didn't have a proper update since Cinema 4D integration.

It was way better when we had a chance do decide wether we buy or not, wasn't it? Back then you actually had to introduce something groundbreaking to sell the new version. But now… we pay anyway.

Keylight 1.2 is 8 YEAR OLD ALREADY! 8 YEARS! No update? Great.
Camera Lens Blur still doesn't boost highlights like a real camera lens bokeh would.
Probably hundreds of simple requested features are not introduced, even though they would require 1 day of work on EXISTING SCRIPTS (example: Trim To Layer Below)
    Rotobrush is still randomly bad.
No "real wiggler" that would create some real movement based on pre-recorded camera shakes.

Those are my ideas from TODAY. Just today. Give me a week and I can write down a hundred of them.
An maybe go and visit you. Me and a group of different level AE users – absolute professionals to casual users.
If you have no idea how your software is used, then let us tell you. Let's make a workshop. Let's talk about it…

So we can have better depth of field on 3D objects? Great! That is what took you so much time? That is a feature that should be on the bottom of the list.

You know what should be on top?

If one guy from Render Garden was able to achieve it, why can't you?!
