VideoPad Video Editor Tutorial | Apply Pan and Zoom (The Ken Burns Effect)

September 3, 2019

Today we will be applying the Ken Burns
Effect, also known as Pan and Zoom, with VideoPad. To begin, load your video clip into VideoPad
and drag the clip to the timeline. If you would like to apply the pan and zoom
effect to a portion of your video, you will need to split the clip into sections before
applying the Pan and Zoom effect. To split a clip, click on the timeline where
you would like the effect to begin and select “Split” from the Sequence Preview window. After you have created a section to apply
the Pan and Zoom effect to, click to highlight the section. With the selection highlighted, from the Video
Effects menu, select “Pan and Zoom”. This will open the effects dialogue box. Select Start or End based on your preference,
and select the focus point of the Pan and Zoom effect by dragging the outline to select
part of the video frame as a focus point. … And you’re done! Simply press play to review your work. We hope that you have enjoyed this video tutorial. To see more, visit our YouTube channel, or

when i try to use it, it always starts from the part where i selected, how do i make it so it starts from the full frame of the clip, then zooms in over time?

I love video pad I just made a video with it but my video is kind of fuzzy and has green pixels. how do I fix that?

Can I create my own effects using videopad or do I need to install something else for that?

Hi! How do I zoom in on an item across the screen. Example: There was a bird that flew across the screen, and I wanted to zoom in on the bird from start to finish. Thanks! 😀

I can't get this to work properly.

This is what I want to do:
I have a 5 minute long video. At 2:00 I want a short zoom to 2:10. And after that back to normal.

This is how I try to do it:
I split the video at 2:00 and 2:10. I select the short clip in between 2:00 and 2:10. Click FX. Click Start and leave it as it is. Click End and zoom it where I want it to zoom.

    The Result:
The video runs normally until 2:00 when it jerks halfway where I zoomed it, does very subtle zooming until 2:10 nowhere near I set it to zoom. And at 2:10 it jerks back.

    My analysis:
Videopad somehow thinks I want to zoom from 0:00 to 5:00 but only want to show this process at 2:00 to 2:10. Is this a bug or normal operation? If normal operation, why would anyone want to do this and how do I set it to Zoom from 2:00 to 2:10 as it should?

Very simple question: How do I start a pan effect on a single image, starting at the bottom of the image, and panning to the top, while already zoomed in on the image (unchanging amount of zoom) from the beginning to end of the clip?

Hey guys, I have a question… How do i add the zoom effect on an image that I have on the timeline where the whole image zooms almost like from 100% to 150%…

  • Reply Ultimatequinoxe May 21, 2017 at 8:36 pm

I'm sadly having the same issue as someone who previously commented. I have contacted support about it, and its such a frustrating thing. 🙁 When running the editor, I watch the playback, and my pan and zoom on the last clip is perfect, smooth and lovely. But once exported, in all variations I can select, the zoom doesn't transist, it just jumps from A to B.

Here's a question, how can I stop my video's from corrupting every time I use this? I go to edit and more of the footage just messes itself.

I switched from WMM and love this program. The comparisons online don't do VideoPad justice. You can do SO much more than with WMM. My question is when I try pan and zoom, I split the part that I want to pan and zoom from the overall clip, but where the split is it jumps ahead in the zoom a bit. It is not smooth. I have ensured that the 'start' option is fully expanded on the video panel. Is there a solution for this?

  • Reply Skinny Ralph June 26, 2018 at 12:34 am

So I set out a clip to pan and zoom in it's own sequence tab. However when I try to select it to zoom it goes to the main file where I cut it out of. I also can't seem to control the placement of the zoom, like keep it at a certain person but the position of the person moves a bit. Anyone know How to rectify these issues I am having?
