And the platform that I am using the most at the moment for its results, technology and speed of processing is: Display Land. This is a short video about an experiment that I have been working on. I will use display land to scan the environment and the result will be used within platforms such as Spark AR, Mixamo, Unity and Sketchfab. Are you ready? Let’s start !! I have spoken several times about photogrammetry, in fact I am taking a course to improve my abilities. Have you not wondered why this platform and this technique catch my attention? Think of it this way: Using your smartphone you can map the physical environment to obtain a similar replica digitally. This is not just a simple digital model, “display land” is able to understand the depth of the environment, colors, light distribution to create a true digital environment taking as reference the real world. Having this 3d environment can easily be used for Virtual Reality and for Augmented Reality. Well, get to work! Let’s use the app! I will start recording this Peruvian model! I recommend that if you want to map your entire body, you have to wear a long sleeve shirt and pants for better tracking. That worked for me, because before I wore a t-shirt but my arms were not scanned. That also depends on the location, preferably your body It should stand out regarding the things that surround you, either by the color of your clothes or position. You must surround the entire body several times to have a better result … The process can take several minutes of recording. When we have the work done, we will see it this way! He has even recorded details that you had not considered. That is no problem. In the same app you can edit your project to reduce or choose only the field that you want to be seen or highlighted. My work now looks like this. We will download the project through a special link via Desktop. What you will see when downloading is the whole 3d file without the previous edition. The great thing about this is that you can download in different formats according to your work objectives. At this time we will edit the file in Blender and then export it to other platforms. Now the question is: where are we going to use them? I made four examples for it. We will use the 3D object of the complete scenario that we have worked on Blender. You know here the trick is to quickly eliminate the vertices or elements that we consider unnecessary. Now we are going to open Spark AR. We drag the 3d file in FBX format. As always, we must disable the automatic compression of textures … Let’s add a plane tracker and then place the file in the hierarchy. We will increase the scale of the 3D object for best visibility; and adjust the position. This is a simple example of plane tracker, let’s see it on the smartphone. Now we will use the other file that I modified in blender, in this case it is only the body in 3d. Did you know that you can add animations in the joints with Mixamo? Yes, your same working file can be used with Mixamo. We are going to add it inside the platform and then we will connect the movement points that will be associated to the body. Finally the 3d body has movement. We will export it this way and it can be easily used on platforms such as Spark AR for an example. The 3d object may not have as much detail that is due to the way I worked from Blender, so don’t worry for better detail first you have to do a good scan with Display Land. We can also use the file within Unity. If we import it as assets, this 3d file can be worked without problems as a scenario…. I like the ease with which you can insert the project we did on Display Land. By the way a tutorial with unity is next to come! Stay tune to my YouTube channel! 🙂 Last but not least we will use this file for a virtual reality experience. We are going to visualize it through Sketchfab. First we need to upload our file to our account. We follow all the necessary steps to implement it correctly. We will now use our oculus quest viewer to visualize it in the immersive world. In the Sketchfab page of my Oculus Quest I can access my public profile. We locate the file and enter VR mode. We already see the 3d file in mock mode, that is, as if it were a small replica. Can you imagine visualizing your architectural works, your design structures and other elements in a more professional and complete way? This is the way.
