Man I have been tempted to switch to Luminar. I love that sky replacement. Would be awesome for real estate photos to get those perfect blue sky’s.

  • Reply Keegan Goerz January 20, 2020 at 3:41 pm

I really like their software design compared to Lightroom but damn does it ever run slow…

  • Reply Chris Rock January 20, 2020 at 3:52 pm

There are so many things I like about this software, but I’m not sure how I feel about the AI sky replacement. It looks super cool, but somehow feels like cheating. I might have to give this a try though.

  • Reply SemiRetiredBob January 20, 2020 at 4:14 pm

Can I add my own skies to the sky replacement tool?

  • Reply pdbdd January 20, 2020 at 4:15 pm

will you or could you do a review on the sony 70-350 for apsc?

  • Reply Martin Ivanov January 20, 2020 at 4:23 pm

The only feature that is tempting is the sky replacement, everything else I would prefer to do manually in photoshop as I feel I have more freedom there (at least from the approach, you have 15 different ways to do every single thing). Definitely more a competitor of Lightroom than Photoshop.

I find that Luminar 4 is very slow (really slow), slower than the previous version that I had which was Luminar 3, I also have installed Affinity Photo on my computer (PC Windows 10) from before I got Luminar and that still works well and fast (Affinity Photo is not running at the same time on my computer). I prefer to use Luminar for editing over Affinity, but it’s very frustrating, not just for the delay in every action, but it’s constantly crashing, especially when using the canvas tools, for example, after clicking on “erase” it can take up to 5 minutes to complete the operation (sometimes longer). I really like the program, but it’s disappointing and as I mentioned, very frustrating. Now I’m beginning to think that I should have waited for Skylum to take care of the “bugs” before updating from Luminar 3.

From watching some you-tube videos about Luminar 4, I can tell that some features only appear on Apple computers, they are not available on Windows operating system,
like the "lasso tool" or the ability to draw a straight line to erase by clicking on point “A” then Point “B” without the need to drag the mouse over the intended area.

Emailing Skylum technical support got me nowhere really fast, I keep getting responses from an automated systems that tells me “try this”, or “try that”, no one is actually reading the emails, and I can tell that that’s the case because some links are for fixing problems with Luminar 3, one of the emails was telling me how to download Luminar 3 (LOL). I know that it’s not my computer for two reasons, every program (photo editors or other programs) that I have are working fine and secondly, I see (on line) that many people have similar problems while running Luminar 4 on a Windows computer. The program as it stands is unusable, for now I’ll go back to using Affinity Photo, I’m sure that eventually they'll get around to fixing the problems, then I’ll go back to using Luminar 4 (which in my opinion is better than Affinity).

Sorry for the long comment, I just wanted to bring it to your attention.

BTW, I have been following your channel for a long time, you are doing a really good job with your tutorials/reviews and I thank you for that.

Sweet vid dude. I have been looking at this program but not sure. Do you think it could be a replacement for Lr? Not a fan of monthly payment.

I am also one of those people who are wary of buying this program after hearing about how slow it can be. Doesn't help that I am editing on a 2012 macbook. Im on Luminar 3 and its still a little slow but not too bad. 4 looks so cool though. I am very tempted.

  • Reply Oleg Vorkunov January 20, 2020 at 7:27 pm

That is nice one. Tried it and here is what I found: When picture is taken at night and sky is completely black, it is difficult to apply a sky. I have to use "Edit Mask" mode to tell it where it is, but it is still way underexposed and slightly visible. For example, I wanted to apply night sky, or Galaxy. Not much of effect is visible, only a few stars. Another one: Sunrays did not create reflection in the water. I had to paint it, but it is acceptable.

Anybody here have Windows system with Luminar 4?? L4 has been awful with constant crashing and slow interface for me, never had the issue with LR/Capture One… I knew luminar had a history of probs with windows users but was still tempted to purchase it because of all the cool features.. so let this be a lesson fellow WINDOWS users BEWARE! At least try out the free trial first!

  • Reply tropidan January 21, 2020 at 4:05 am

I wish it had a hue dial marker similar to Lightroom. It’s so convenient to just click on the image and change the hue, sat and luma. Maybe they’ll add that to future updates.

How do you have that color profile?
I don't find any fuji color profile (since i'm using fuji).

I find it quite easy to add fuji color profile in lightroom, but can't find it anywhere in luminar.

    Isn't the leaf sample photo a bit over-saturated? 🤔

  • Reply Paddington January 21, 2020 at 10:00 am

Definitely interested enough to try! Really wish I wasnt so embedded in the Sdobe ecosystem, especially the Cloud…

LOVE Luminar. It's 100% my favorite photo editing software. I bought into Skylum 2 years ago with Aurora HDR, and then when I discovered this, I dropped my Lightroom subscription. I'm so glad to see you on board with it. Awesome video, as usual.

  • Reply BS Media January 21, 2020 at 6:21 pm

Loved Luminar 3! Can't wait to try 4! Also, I believe the AI Accent is supposed to create an HDR effect, but i could be completely wrong.
