Photoshop: How to Make Text Look Like Green SLIME.

February 10, 2020

This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV. I’m going to show you how to create text made
of green slime. I created this green slime background many
years ago in After Effects and thought it would be a fun image to use for a background someday. For your convenience, I also provided a link
to a font I’ll be using called, “Schlop”. The links to the background and to the font are in my video’s description below or in my project files. As always, if you’re not already a subscriber
to Blue Lightning TV, hit that small “Subscribe” button at the lower, right, to let you know
as soon as I upload new Photoshop tutorials! Open your Horizontal Type Tool and Type Picker. As I mentioned, I’m using “Shlop”, but feel
free to use another font if you like. This effect look best with a large point size. Make the aliasing: Smooth and center alignment. Click the color box and in the hexadecimal
field, type in: 72A726. Click on your document and type out your text. To reposition it, open your Move Tool and move it. We’ll convert our text into a Smart Object,
so we can modify it non-destructively. To do this, click the icon at the upper, right
of the Layers panel and click “Convert to Smart Object”. Make a copy of it by pressing Ctrl or Cmd
+ J. Reduce its “Fill” to 0%. This makes the text invisible, but it’ll retain the full visibility of all the filters we’ll be adding to it. Make three copies of it by pressing Ctrl or
Cmd + J, three times. Hide all the copies and double-click an empty area of the original text to open its Layer Style window. Keep in mind: For this image, my text is approximately
800 points. If you’re using a much larger or much smaller
point size, in order to get similar results as mine, you’ll need to adjust the setting amounts in many of the layer styles that I’ll using in this tutorial. Feel free to play with the amounts to get
the look you want. Click “Bevel and Emboss”. The Style is Inner Bevel and the Technique
is Smooth. We’ll always use these settings of Inner
Bevel and Smooth throughout this tutorial. The Depth is 130% and the Direction is Up. The Size is 45 pixels and Soften it 10 pixels. In all of the Layer Styles, make sure “Use
Global Light” is unchecked. The Angle is minus 20 degrees and the Altitude
is 60 degrees. Open the Gloss Contour presets and click the gear icon. Click “Small List”. Click “Cone – Inverted”. The Highlight Mode is “Linear Light” and its
opacity is 50%. Click the box and type in: CCB89C. The Shadow Mode is “Color Burn” and its opacity
is also 50%. Click the box and type in: 37462C. Check “Contour”. The Contour is Linear and the Range is 50%. Click “Inner Glow” and the color box. Type in: D5FFB0. The Blend Mode is Normal and the Opacity is 100%. The Technique is “Precise” and the Source
is “Center”. The Choke is 0 and the Size is 150 pixels. The Contour is Linear and the Range is 50%. Click “Gradient Overlay”. The Blend Mode is Multiply and the Opacity is 100%. Click the gradient bar. Click the lower, left Stop and the color box. Type in: D7D7D7. Click the lower, right Stop and the color box. The color is white. The Style is Linear, the Angle is 90 degrees
and the Scale is 100%. Click “Outer Glow” and the color box. Type in: 006511. The Blend Mode is Multiply and the Opacity is 70%. The Technique is Softer, the Spread is 50%
and the Size is 40 pixels. The Contour is Linear and the Range is 75%. Click “Drop Shadow” and the color box. Type in: 294400. The Blend Mode is Multiply, the opacity is
75% and the Angle is 90 degrees. The Distance is 75 pixels, the Spread is 0
and the Size is 30 pixels. The Contour is Linear. Next, we’ll create highlight refractions & reflections. Let’s collapse the effects to save space in
the Layers panel. Make a copy of the layer and open the effects. Hide “Outer Glow” and “Drop Shadow”. Convert the layer into another Smart Object. Go to Filter and Filter Gallery. Open the “Artistic” folder and click “Plastic Wrap”. Make the Highlight Strength: 20, the Detail:
15 and the Smoothness: 15. Change the Blend Mode to “Luminosity”. Go to Filter, Blur and Gaussian Blur. Blur it 2 pixels. Then, collapse the effects. Make the layer above it visible and double-click an empty area of the layer to open its Layer Style window. Click “Bevel and Emboss”. The Depth is 135% and the Direction is Up. The Size is 25 pixels and Soften it 3 pixels. The Angle is 120 degrees and the Altitude
is 25 degrees. Open the Gloss Contour presets, scroll down
and click “Rounded Steps”. The Highlight Mode is Linear Light and the
opacity is 75%. Click the box and type in: D7C8B4. The Shadow Mode is irrelevant, since its opacity is 0%. Click “Contour” and open the Contour presets. Click “Sawtooth 2” and make the Range 50%. Click “Inner Glow”. The Blend Mode is “Color Burn”, the Opacity
is 20% and the color is black. The Technique is “Precise” and the Source is “Edge”. The Choke is 0% and the Size is 20 pixels. The Contour is Linear and the Range is 50%. Next, we’ll add air bubbles and texture to
our slime text. Collapse the effects and make the layer above it visible. Double-click the layer. Click “Bevel and Emboss”. The Depth is 100% and the Direction is Up. The Size is 40 pixels and soften it 2 pixels. The Angle is 120 degrees and the Altitude
is 60 degrees. The Gloss Contour is “Cone – Inverted”. The Highlight Mode is Linear Light and the
opacity is 70%. Click the box and type in: D7C8B4. The Shadow Mode is Multiply and its opacity is 75%. Click the box and type in: 95C333. Click “Contour”. Open the Contour presets and click “Cone – Inverted”. The Range is 100%. Click Texture and open the Texture presets. I”ll click “Gray Granite”, but feel free
to use whatever pattern you like. If you don’t see it, it may be inside a preset
called “Rock Patterns” in “Pattern Overlay”. I’ll make the Scale 700% and the Depth: 70%. Click “Inner Glow”. The color is black, the Blend Mode is “Color
Burn” and the Opacity is 20%. The Technique is “Precise” and the Source
is “Edge”. The Choke is 0% and the Size is 20 pixels. The Contour is Linear and the range is 50%. Next, we’ll add a light refraction to the inside. Collapse the effects and make the layer above it visible. Double-click the layer and click “Bevel & Emboss”. The Depth is 135% and the Direction is Up. The Size is 80 pixels and Soften it 8 pixels. The Angle is 120 degrees and the Altitude
is 25 degrees. The Gloss Contour is “Peaks”. The Highlight Mode is “Color Dodge” and its
opacity is 70%. Click the box and type in D7C8B4. The Opacity is 50%. The Shadow Mode and color are irrelevant,
since the opacity is 0%. Click “Contour”. Make the contour “Peaks” and the range: 50%. Lastly, we’ll add an oily sheen along the
edges of each character. Collapse the effects and make the layer above
it visible. Double-click the layer and click “Bevel & Emboss”. The Depth is 135% and the Direction is Up. The Size is 15 pixels and Soften it 2 pixels. The Angle is 120 degrees and the Altitude
is 40 degrees. The Gloss Contour is “Ring”. The Blend Mode is “Screen”, the color is F9FDB8
and the opacity is 75%. Ignore the Shadow mode and color, since theopacity is 0. Click Contour. The Contour is “Cone – Inverted” and the Range
is 50%. This is Marty from Blue Lightning TV. Thanks for watching!
