COMM: This time on Share The Hair: we’re with Farouk, the little guy with the biggest and cutest afro on the internet. But today, the fro has gotta go. How will Farouk’s dramatic new look go down with his army of followers? We’ll see when he decides to Share The Hair. COMM: Sometimes kids are just born with it. It was at least an inch and a half when he was born and it just turned curly about four months old. And then the colour started to come in; the blonde and the auburn and the browns. And his hair just grew up and out. COMM: Amazed by her son’s incredible locks, Bonnie decided to put his hair online and share it with the world. BONNIE: Very, very quickly, all due to his hair, everyone just started reposting them; all the hair pages, curly hair pages, natural hair movements and then it just grew and grew and grew. COMM: As the followers and likes rolled in, so did the work. Companies from all over were asking Farouk to be the face and hair of their brand. BONNIE: When it comes to modelling, people approach us via Instagram and they already know what he looks like. They’re already, generally they are looking for something very unique. FAROUK: My favourite modelling job was working at seven and I got to drive a electric car. BONNIE: Some brands will want us to manipulate it and, you know, he is only six and there’s only so much he can take. So the one thing that I always say is with any brand, any work we do that I basically have full control of his hair. So that way he is not, you know, it’s not too intrusive for him. COMM: Bonnie works hard to ensure Farouk’s fro is forever on fleek. Keeping it clean and healthy is no quick wash and blow dry for her son’s hair. BONNIE: In this house, Farouk’s hair is the priority, it even comes before cooking dinner and housework. COMM: Farouk’s hair is put into plaits to make it easier to tackle. Bonnie lovingly oils and shampoos each curl to ensure it bounces back to its full glory. BONNIE: So about half an hour ago, I put some oil on his hair, which is just to pre-shampoo. So you put the oil on his hair, it makes it easier to detangle and protects the hair from the shampoo’s harsh chemicals. COMM: While Farouk’s fame is due to his amazing afro, it’s important to keep things fresh. COMM: Bonnie has asked followers what they think about a total restyle. BONNIE: I asked your followers if it’s okay for you to have that style and it was 83% for the hair style. COMM: So what’s the new style you ask? We will just have to wait and see. ERROL: What I love about Farouk’s hair, he has got like a fantastic texture. Done a couple of shoots with him and he has stolen the show. COMM: We could be here for sometime but Farouk is feeling optimistic. Farouk: One hour. COMM: One hour? Let’s do this thing. COMM: And mum Bonnie is on him to live stream this epic restyle to his fans. BONNIE: And Veronica said, ‘Wow, amazing hair!’ Said, ‘You’re cute Farouk,’ Baby Cozy said, ‘You are cute.’ COMM: Here we go. Farouk’s big bouncy afro curls have been transformed into a head of sleek braids parted into two bunches, which are then plaited. That’s fresh! But what does everyone else think? COMM: Yes Farouk! BONNIE: It’s not just enriched him, his image. His life has been enriched. I mean the things that he has got to do and it’s all started from his hair. COMM: The fans love it. Mum’s happy and Farouk can go home assured that he is killing it.
