Alternative Way to View Video Thumbnail without Stop Download

February 8, 2020

recently YouTube decided to uh remove the stop download feature
from Adobe Flash Player so when you right click here it no
longer says stop download anywhere it just shows
stats and debug info and playback issues and things like that and the embed code but
it used to say stop download in here so if you would go stop
download you could see the video thumbnail even though the video thumbnail had the
play button over lapping it people could still see
the video thumbnail and I don’t know save it or do whatever with
it um but YouTube decided to remove it now it wasn’t Adobe that decided to do
it it was YouTube that decided to remove the
ability but there is a way that you can actually still do it and not have the play button overlapping the image and see the
image in 1280 by 720 uh so I’ll show you how to do that now the first thing you do is press control + U and then it brings up the page source and the next thing you want
to do is press control and F and that’ll bring up the
find like you can see here and then you type in OG colon image and then it locates the OG colon image in the page source and
then you just drag it over or scroll over to the end of the link here and highlight this
link by left clicking your mouse and
dragging over top of it and then right-click and go copy now we’ll go into this new tab
that I already have open and we’ll just click paste and go and there you go that’s the video
thumbnail right there and you can right-click it and save image as or email the image or copy the image or image location now to prove that I got the right video thumbnail here it is
just a lot smaller as it’s displayed on the YouTube website or channel or in your subscription feed so that is one way you can get the video
thumbnail uh since they’ve decided to remove stop download subscribe or visit my channel

Yeah because they're slowly rolling out the new layout. I've managed to get back to the old layout without any scripts or add-ons.

I know… what I mean is, how do you do this on Mac

  • Reply MrBallistae September 13, 2013 at 3:45 am

rightclick outside the video player and select "view page source".

  • Reply GodlessManitoban September 13, 2013 at 4:24 am

You have to activate the develop menu in Safari.
To activate the Develop menu, go to Safari Preferences, Advanced.
After you activate the develop menu you should be able to right click the page and view source.

Click pause. YouTube made pause the new stop download. The only difference is that you don't see the thumbnail and play button over top the video.

  • Reply GodlessManitoban September 16, 2013 at 2:44 am

There's no point to that video. You'll notice that pause does the same thing. Except it doesn't show the thumbnail and play button over the video.

  • Reply DealMeFast Comobi September 18, 2013 at 1:54 pm

pause bottom doesn't stop the download , try it : the red ribbon stop and the silver ribbon continue download . I found another way in Firefox by using grease monkey scripts , there is stop download bottom appears under the video just install grease monkey and install the "Stop YouTube Video Download script" and u will see the difference with thumbnail also 🙂

    " userscripts. org/scripts/show/173815 "
it works better than my last video.

  • Reply DealMeFast Comobi September 18, 2013 at 2:00 pm

    ht tp:// userscripts. org /scripts/show/173815
remove the spaces from the link

  • Reply GodlessManitoban September 18, 2013 at 2:06 pm

    This is from the YouTube help forum;
"If you used this feature to stop videos from loading, we recommend that you pause your videos. In most cases, unless you have changed the video's quality already, pausing a video will either result in a video only buffering to a certain point or not buffering altogether."
So pausing the video is the same as stop download. It'll only buffer a little way after clicking pause or it won't buffer at all.

Do you have either Internet Explorer or Firefox open? Does the web browser have focus? Left click the web browser once to give it focus.

how do you do it on mac book?

  • Reply N30N_N0Va October 14, 2013 at 1:42 am

Just right click on a white section of the page and click on "View page source". Then og:image should be somewhere in the top 30 lines.

  • Reply N30N_N0Va October 14, 2013 at 1:45 am

I don't have a Mac so I don't know if this will work but I'm pretty sure if you just right click on a white section of the page and click view page source, then just search for og:image in the first couple of lines.

  • Reply GodlessManitoban December 16, 2013 at 2:08 am

    @NisseFTW11
Go to the Safari Menu, Open preferences, Go to Advanced.
Put a check mark in "Show Develop menu in menu bar" and close the preferences.
In the Develop menu click Show page source.
You can use Cmd+Opt+U to open the page source OR right click in a blank area of the webpage and click View page source.
Next press Cmd+F and type og:image to locate the URL for the video thumbnail.
